Hello Peter & all:

New to this site and hoping it will be a good resource.

I am on ROR for the Foreign Commercial Service and have been advised a strong chance that in the next few weeks I will be offered a position to begin this fall.  Enthusiastic about the opportunity!

However, I live in New England and my first post is slated to be a USEAC in the midwest.  Despite "worldwide availability" my wife and I have determined that it is not feasible for us to relocate our family (2 kids 7 & 4) domestically just for a couple of years before we head overseas.

At the advice of a relative who is a senior Coast Guard officer, I am seriously considering a weekly commute to my domestic post — without the "magic powers", financial benefits & allowances of a foreign one!

I'd welcome a one-on-one conversation with someone who has done or considered this about the pros & cons.

thanks!
