Hi Meg!

If you had your security clearance adjudicated and granted a Top Secret Clearance, then I see no problem at all.  Being restricted from one country is not something I would give any thought about, and I see no reason this will affect your career.  Most Foreign Service Officers end up being assigned to no more than 6 or 7 countries in their ENTIRE career, so not being able to go to ONE country out of almost 200 is not an issue.

Welcome aboard!

Hello Peter,

This is such a great site. I have a question about how security clearance restrictions affect employment. I passed my OA for a specialist position back in August and have not yet been placed on the register. Apparently I passed my security clearance back in March, but was last told that I will be restricted from a certain country. In your experience, do these types of restrictions impede and/or delay employment or promotion? It has been difficult to obtain any details from HR.

Best,

Meg
