The State Department does have serious issues with Foreign Service Officers who have dual citizenship from serving in their native country, but less so with dependent spouses. Still, you need to take this up with HR and they in turn will take it up with Diplomatic Security (DSS). There are no hard and fast rules regarding who can go where, or who can join the Foreign Service. Each case is weighed on it's own merit. In some circumstances, yes, there could be a problem. In others, no.

I have seen Foreign Service members marry local nationals and continue to serve at post. The issue will depend on many factors, and is not as simple as a single rule.

Thank you so much for helping with all my previous questions.

I am a foreign born spouse, (green card, for almost 25 years).
Are their rules against my husband being posted to the country where I was born?

My husband thinks there may be rules against it because of conflict of interest issues.
