Hi Peter, I stumbled upon your blog and was inspired to pick up Metal Detecting(MD) in Singapore. I’ve just ordered a Whites PI Dual Field and can’t wait for it to arrive. Just like to check with you do you still MD in Singapore? Would like to pick up a few tips from you. Also, can you share with me the contact details of the authority you approached to ask for a permit to MD in Singapore beaches, that could come in handle if ever I’m approached by the authorities. I really appreciate the help. It was lost in dry sand, up on the main beach, about 20-30 meters from the shore. Hopefully I still have chance when your collegue returns. I know the exact 4×4 meter area, as it was on my lap while I was sitting in my beach chair. Unfortunately, I forgot it was on my lap…until I returned home 2 hours later. I returned immediately, but it was too dark. Next day didn’t produce anything positive…

I sent my collegue an email. But he is on holiday until November 28! If the ring was lost in dry sand it will be gone in 10 days. Gold moves downhill in sand at the rate of about 2 cm per day. Within a 10 days it will be beyond the reach of most metal detectors. If it was lost in the water, thn the time is even less – about 5 days before it is too deep for non-divers to recover as it drits down the slope and reaches a point where it is never exposed during low tide. The area at Sentosa about 10 meters from shore is a gold mine with probably over a million dollars in gold jewelry.
